Our Culture

Vision:  Our vision is to invite the surrounding communities into the family of God.  This vision is based on the Great Commission: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19.

Values We highly value engaging with God in worship, engaging with God through each other in fellowship and engaging with God in the community through outreach. These values reflect the Summary of the Law: Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your soul and all of your strength, and all of your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself. (Luke 1:27)  God’s love for us enables us to love Him and extend His kingdom by loving our neighbors as ourselves.

Vehicles: In order to fulfill our vision, we are developing Missional Communities.  A Missional Community is a group of about 20 people who reach out to a particular neighborhood or network of people with similar interest and provide a way for those with no church connection to engage with the gospel in their own setting.  This helps us to invite people into the family God who may not be able to attend a Sunday morning service.  We also reach out to Goochland communities through organizations such as Goochland Christmas Mother, the YMCA’s Bright Beginnings, and Goochland Cares’ Food Pantry.

ValuationWe are what we value.  We count first what we value most.  In following Jesus’ directives to make disciples, the first thing we count is how many people are in a discipling relationship.  Secondly, we keep track of how many ministries are functioning outside of our 10:00AM Sunday service.  After that, we keep track of Sunday attendance, and finally, we keep track of our financial situation.  All of these areas are reported to the vestry committee at each regular meeting.
